An Accurate Diagnosis For Your Cat

At The Cat Hospital of Kamloops, the technology and tools in our in-house lab help us pinpoint the cause of your feline friend's symptoms. Prompt results allow us to determine a diagnosis, and begin treatment as quickly as possible.

Diagnostic tools can be used to gain invaluable insights that cannot be determined during a physical examination. Diagnostic tools can also help detect health issues in their early stages so your veterinarian can make a plan to treat them before they become more serious.

Routine diagnostics not only increase the chances of successful recovery when illness or disease is present, but it can also improve the quality of life for your cat. Early detection can also help prevent the spread of contagious diseases among other pets in your household.

Technology & Medical Testing At The Cat Hospital of Kamloops

We have diagnostic tests and medical technology that allow your veterinarian to provide an accurate diagnosis of your cat's medical issues and supplement treatment plans. These tests and tools include:

  • Radiography (Digital X-rays)

Radiography is a safe, painless and non-invasive imaging technique that uses very low doses of radiation. This procedure can be performed on pregnant females and very young kittens without causing harm.

Radiographs are valuable tools for evaluating conditions such as fractures, chronic arthritis, bladder stones, spinal cord diseases, and certain tumours.

  • Ultrasound

With ultrasound imaging, we expose part of a cat's body to high-frequency sound waves to produce images of their insides. This allows us to see the structure of a cat's internal organs, as well as observe the blood flowing through their blood vessels in real-time.

  • Cold Lasers

Cold laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses a low-level laser to stimulate healing and reduce pain. It can be used to treat a variety of conditions, such as arthritis, wounds, and inflammation.

The laser penetrates the tissue and promotes cellular regeneration and blood circulation, often resulting in faster healing and pain relief.

  • Bloodwork

At our lab in Kamloops, we offer a range of blood tests designed for cats to assess their overall health and detect any underlying illnesses.

Some of the commonly performed veterinary blood tests for cats include complete blood count (CBC), white blood cell count, hemoglobin and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), hematocrit, platelet count, eosinophils, and blood serum profiles.

  • Urinalysis

Urinalysis is a crucial diagnostic test that provides us with vital information about the physical and chemical properties of your cat's urine. It is primarily used to evaluate the health of their kidneys and urinary tract, but it can also aid in detecting potential problems in other organ systems.

Additionally, urinalysis plays a significant role in diagnosing metabolic diseases like diabetes.

  • Fecal Exams

A fecal exam is the microscopic examination of your cat's feces, which can be done at our in-house veterinary lab in Kamloops. The ultimate goal of a fecal exam is to identify and treat any gastrointestinal infections that could be compromising your cat's health, and even the health of your family.

Fecals allow our veterinarian to determine if your cat has intestinal parasites, such as roundworms or hookworms, which are common in cats. Detecting and treating these parasites promptly can help ensure your cat’s well-being and prevent potential transmission to other pets or humans in your home.

In-House Veterinary Pharmacy

Once we diagnose your cat's condition, your veterinarian may need to prescribe medications, which can be supplied at our in-house pharmacy.

When it's time to renew your cat's prescription, let us know. We understand the importance of having your cat’s medicine available quickly, so we will make every effort to ensure that it is ready and waiting for you when you come to pick it up.
